WORK PACKAGES: Experimental setting and environmental monitoring

Pore-water chemistry will be analyzed on samples periodically collected from a set of selective piezometers at three different depths (temperature, pH, electrical conductivity and dissolved oxygen (DOx), dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), dissolved phosphate (PO4), ammonium (NH4) and nitrate (NO3). Total soluble phenols in water samples will be also determined (Allen, 1989). Enzymatic (phenol oxydase and FDA) will also be measured in the water (see task 4). The concentration of exchangeable nutrients in the same peat samples used for tasks 3 and 4 will be measured after extraction, which will provide concentrations of NH4, NO3, TN, TP, and PO4.
