WORK PACKAGES: Microbial biomass and microbial diversity

Peat samples will be collected yearly at peak biomass at a depth between -4 cm and -13 cm. Microbial biomass (C, N and P) will be determined by fumigation, and microbial diversity by PLFA and PLEL analyses. Microbial organisms will also be extracted from the living upper soil layer (0-5 cm) and identification procedure will follow Mitchell et al. (2003) for various groups (see also task 6).
